Unfortunately there are no hotels right around the wedding site, so we have reserved some blocks at a couple hotels and have suggestions for hotels for a variety of tastes and needs. This means that guests will not necessarily be in the same location, so if you'd like to room with other specific guests you might want to check with us or with your friends about where they are staying. Please check out the information about these various hotels to find one that works for you. For a map of hotel locations around the Berkeley Campus, click here.
IN DOWNTOWN BERKELEY:
If you want to be near the UC campus in a beautiful building with limited amenities: Berkeley City Club might be for you. This hotel is in a good location in an interesting neighborhood with plenty to see. The building was originally the Women's City Club and was designed by Julia Morgan. It has a kind of gothic feel to the architecture. Look at the beautiful pictures on the website. The building also has an indoor pool. Unfortunately, the rooms don't have TVs and I don't think they have internet. I have not seen the rooms, so I'm not sure if they are super comfortable, but if you like historic charm, this might be fun. PRICE for the Pence/Matz Party: $135 Call: (510) 848-7800
If you want to be near a BART station and in Berkeley downtown: try Downtown Berkeley Inn. If you don't want to rent a car and want to get from either airport to the hotel on public transportation, this is probably the best option. The location is good because it is a block or so from the Downtown Berkeley Shattuck Ave. BART station and in the heart of downtown, where there are a number of restaurants and you are a couple blocks from campus. Downside is the place looks more like a motel than a hotel, so I'm not sure about comfort level. PRICE for Pence/Matz Party: $109 (reserve before July 16--only 7 rooms available) Call 510-843-4043
There are some other hotels near downtown Berkeley that you could also check out.
Holiday Inn: This is further down University Avenue close to the North Berkeley BART station. It gets mixed reviews on tripadvisor, but it probably pretty nice and has more amenities than many of the hotels/motels right around campus. The neighborhood right around the hotel isn't quite as nice as downtown, but you are still a somewhat short distance from campus and there are interesting restaurants nearby. Also pretty close to the freeway. Call 510-548-1705.
IN EMERYVILLE (NEXT DOOR TO BERKELEY):
If you want to be in a full-comfort hotel near an outdoor mall with easy parking/freeway access: you might try the Four Points Sheraton in Emeryville. Emeryville is a town next door to Berkeley near the Bay and near the Bay Bridge that leads to San Francisco. The downside of this hotel is that it is not near a BART station. It would be best to drive here. This hotel might be best if you are less interested in walking around colorful Berkeley downtown out the front door of your hotel. Instead the nearby shopping is a pleasant and clean but totally chain store-filled Bay Street outdoor mall. This hotel is a quick drive to the wedding site. Price for Pence/Matz Party: $110 (reserve before July 16--7 standard double and 8 king rooms available) Call 800-325-3535 or 510-547-7888. If you want to stay longer call Melissa Williams 510-547-8414 x7158 who can help get best rate for extra days)
In the same area as the Four Points Sheraton is a Courtyard Marriott. This hotel is newly renovated and slightly closer to the main area of the Bay Street Mall. We were unable to reserve a block of rooms here, so the rates are $189/night. 510-652-8777
IN ALAMEDA:
Coral Reef Inn & Suites: Alameda is an island right next door to Oakland. It is like a small town in the middle of the Bay Area. This motel does not have as convenient access to Berkeley, because you need to drive through the town of Alameda before you get to the freeway. However, my parents have had friends stay here, because it's relatively inexpensive and they found it to be a nice place. 510-521-2330
IN DOWNTOWN OAKLAND:
I didn't orignially think of hotels in Downtown Oakland, but I was just in that area for dinner the other night and saw that the downtown has become really vibrant and nice, with a lot of great restaurants. The advantage of booking here, is that there is a convenient BART station close to major hotels, such as Oakland Marriott City Center. If you want a nice chain hotel with good BART access and an interesting neighborhood, this is worth looking into.
IN SAN FRANCISCO:
There are obviously many hotels in San Francisco. If you want to stay in the big city and enjoy some tourism, then this might be the way to go. If you stay close to a BART station, such as Union Square, you can easily come into Berkeley and we can try to arrange for someone to pick you up to drive you to the wedding. If you want advice on specific San Francisco hotels, let me know.
If you have any questions about hotel locations or characteristics, please ask Kathy. If you'd like to share a hotel room, please let me know as well. If you are having troubles with accomodations or have any other questions please contact me: 510-530-3848.
Thanks!
