Everyone is invited to join us for a casual dinner of pizza and beer the night before the wedding, August 15, at Sequoia Lodge in Oakland. Sequoia Lodge is a fun space
surrounded by redwood trees in the Oakland Hills, but it's only a minute or two from the Warren Freeway (13), so it's really
easy to get to. The Lodge is owned by the Oakland Parks Service that rents it out for weddings and parties, but the other nice thing about it is that by day it serves as Kathy's 5-year-old nephew Ben's pre-school! So bring your kids because there is a fun playground right outside. I'm sure Ben would love to show you around. Don't worry, though...for parties they take out the kids' stuff and replace those tiny chairs and tables with adult-size furniture. Come any time between 5:00 and 9:00 to pig out on
Zachary's Pizza, a venerable Oakland institution. Afterward, those who would like to stay out late can head to the shopping district of Montclair closeby to hang out at
Crogan's until 11:00, or a little farther away to Piedmont Avenue that features a great ice cream place (
Fenton's) and a hipster bar that stays open until 1:00 (
Cato's). A little farther is the cool tiki bar the
Conga Lounge, on College Avenue (apparently every Friday DJ Tropic spins island and world music there until 2:00 am.) The Sequoia Lodge address is: 2666 Mountain Boulevard.
